As Global Co-Head of Turnaround and Restructuring Services at AlixPartners, Joff advises firms navigating moments of crisis, drawing on 30 years’ of experience guiding executive leadership through acquisitions, debt financing and restructuring, divestitures, and bankruptcy reorganizations. 

He has a stewarded a billion-dollar debt restructuring in the motion-picture industry, advised on a multi-jurisdictional international restructuring of ground and cargo-handling services, raised $2.7 billion of exit financing for a energy company’s restructuring and sale, and has counseled bank groups, foreign governments, CEOs, distressed industry players, and multinational firms on how to recover value and momentum amid upheaval. Along with deep business acumen, he approaches each client engagement with empathy, driven by the belief that change management is constant and the right team will meet the moment.

Joff was recognized as the 2022 Global Turnaround Consultant of the Year by the Global M&A Network Turnaround Awards, is a fellow with The American Bankruptcy Institute, a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, is a member of The Turnaround Management Association and The Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors, and is a board member and honoree with Her Justice, a nonprofit devoted to providing free legal services to women living in poverty in New York City. He maintains ties with his alma mater, Auckland University of Technology, which recognized him as 2017 Seddon Honorary Fellow.

  • Advised Swissport, a leading global provider of ground and cargo-handling services through its multi-jurisdictional international restructuring; recognized as the International Turnaround of the year by TMA Awards.
  • Advised Technicolor, a global leader in content creation and technology for Hollywood studios and filmmakers, in its restructuring of over €1.4 billion in debt.
  • Served as the CRO of Toisa, a Greek-owned international shipping company.
  • Served as CRO of Sabine Oil and Gas, an independent E&P company with $3 billion in pre-petition debt.
  • Appointed CRO of Dewey & LeBoeuf, where he led the wind-down of the global law firm.
  • Advised Kerzner International, owner of Atlantis Resorts & Casino, in its consensual out-of-court restructuring.
  • Served as CRO of LandAmerica Financial Group, Inc. and LandAmerica 1031 Exchange Services Inc.
  • Served as CEO and then chairman of Entegra Power Group, which owned the two largest gas-fired merchant power plants in the United States; also led the company’s refinancing, raising $1.3 billion.
  • Advised a 38-member bank group in the pre-arranged bankruptcy of two of TECO Energy’s power plants.
  • Served as director of restructuring at NRG Energy, where he was responsible for raising $2.7 billion of exit financing and managing the sales process of electricity generating operations in the US and internationally.
